Preparation for E2E at St Nicholas School, Southend Borough Council

St Nicholas is the only school in the Nova Partnership, the umbrella organisation which includes colleges and work based learning providers that operate E2E courses in Southend.

Background

St Nicholas School conducted a pilot programme funded by the LSC for Year 11 pupils who would be leaving to go on to E2E and other educational and work based learning provision. Funding was provided towards a purpose built room at the school and to purchase equipment and technology. The school recognised the need for such a course as it was aware that many of its leavers experienced difficulties in moving to new environments where they did not get the emotional support they had at school.

The Young People

The entire cohort of Year 11 pupils attending school, attended the pre E2E course leading up to the summer holidays. They had a mixture of special needs, including learning and behavioural difficulties. It is intended in the current academic year to extend the programme to include pupils from a local mainstream secondary school.
