Facts about the Optima Project
The project was first launched in 2003 and is a partnership between the SCOLLAR Trust, South East Essex College (SEEC) and six Southend schools. The aim of the project is to introduce and support Applied GCSEs in:
- Health and Social Care
- ICT
- Engineering
- Art, Media and Performing Arts
- Science
- Business
- Sport
- Leisure and Tourism
The project is targeted at Year 10 and 11 pupils from Belfairs High, Cecil Jones College, Chase High, Shoeburyness High, The Thorpe Bay School and Westcliff High for Girls. It increases links with the business community to broaden knowledge of the 'world of work' and a more comprehensive understanding of career opportunities. It encourages pupils to explore progression routes to further and higher education. The project is co-ordinated by Sue Geeson, and funded and evaluated by the Learning & Skills Council.
